SUTTON, My mountain resort! … since 1960

SUTTON, My mountain resort! is the tale of a remarkable family that was, and continues to be, a driving force in the development of an entire region of Quebec.

InaugurationThe Boulanger family moved to Sutton in 1945. A trained administrator working in the dairy industry, Harold Boulanger decided to found Sutton Dairy Products with two partners, Charles Dionne and Albert Deslauriers. A key enterprise until 1980, that specialized in the production of butter, skim milk powder, protein and pasteurized chocolate milk.

Sutton Dairy Products was typically very busy for four to five months during the summer, but in the winter, was forced to lay off employees. This situation led the owners to begin thinking about a business that would keep their personnel busy during the winter months. At that time, people were wilderness skiing at Sutton, more specifically on the North face of Mohawk Lake, the mountain next to the actual resort. During the winter of 1946, the young Boulangers began their love affair with the sport of downhill skiing.

like nowhere else !

Like nowhere else!The 2006-2007 campaign was inspired by SUTTON’s own skiers and boarders, all of whom said, in one way or another: “SUTTON is like nowhere else!” Truly stimulating, the mountain promises adventure and relaxation in equal measure. Several assets stand out and set SUTTON apart: the authentic natural setting that beckons skiers and boarders from the moment they arrive; the unique snowfalls that are the product of a special microclimate; and the renowned glades that are famous throughout Eastern North America. These attributes make SUTTON, My mountain resort! a destination like no other!

The three principal images of the campaign, inspired by the glory years, reflect the true nature of SUTTON: the young woman rising to the challenge of cross-country trails, the avid skier in powder, and the couple enjoying the view and bucolic beauty of the mountain chalets.

Two more images has joined the others since the beginning of the 2007-2008 season: the family enjoying one of our famous glades and the animated discussions between friends in a chairlift.

There is so much more to say about the images and their parallel with the spirit of the mountain…

what's new this season ?

SUTTON’s improvements
2007-2008

After the positive overview of the last season, here are all the improvements in store for 2007-2008 season.

MiracleNew snow guns for faster snow coverage

Sutton is adding to its snow covering equipment; new snow guns fixed and mobile to our snow covering equipment giving us a wider flexibility in our effort to make snow and a faster turn out in the abrupt temperature change and particularly with the milder temperature.  At the same time with this investment we are looking to support the efforts made for a better environment with a reduction in consumption of energy.  By requirering less compressed air to make snow this new technology is the latest in its kind consuming 50% less electric energy (kwh) than older models on the market.

Ambassador Guide to help you discover and appreciate our mountain

SUTTON wins by having you discover its glades and trails, all 53 of them and 194 junctions.  The mountain offers numerous downhill possibilities with great view and sensations.  Ambassador guides will now be available at no charge from 10:00 a. m. until 1:00 p.m. to help skiers in playing, learning and exploring new trails throughout this mountain.  Come; live and experience Sutton!

Chalet Altitude 520… a hidden treasure!

Close to SUTTON’s main chalet, directly at the bottom of the slopes, there is a place where you can order from a gourmet menu delightful French onion soup, new this year delicious pizza cooked in a stone oven and also tasty BBQ chicken, all of this in an authentic atmosphere and a little music. Please note that it is possible for you to buy your lift tickets here, avoiding the line-ups and head out faster on the trail of your choice.  Definitely a bonus !

Always concerned about the environment

Besides the different projects over the last few years to improve the environment such as chemical toilets with biological compost, recuperating rain fall, used oil, using recycle paper (for our brochures, trail maps and newsletters, etc.) controlled tree cutting and replanting, reusing consigned containers, detergents with no phosphate, a controlled pumping system to reduce water usage, shuttle service to bring visitors from different stops in town to the mountain to cut down on using your car, etc.  These are a few examples and gestures that we took upon ourselves in pursuing with our endeavour towards a better and friendlier environment.  We are also gradually replacing the traditional light bulbs and fluorescent with the new energy saving bulbs.  The restaurant only buys 100% biodegradable detergents and the administrative offices recycle its paper.

We are sharing the road, we carpool!

In continuing in preserving the environment SUTTON, My mountain resort! is innovating by supporting carpooling. You will find more information of this service on our web site montsutton.com.

A new arrival in the snow park

If you had the chance to see the new RODEOFEST rail last season, you will be happy to know that throughout the season, snow park users will have the opportunity to slide on the big wooden log. A chance you don’t want to miss.

The new bar « Le Tucker »

SUTTON opened its new bar « Le Tucker » at the end of last season. Long awaited, it was an instant success. It allows skiers and friends to get together at the bottom of the mountain in a warm atmosphere after a nice day of skiing.   « Le Tucker » will again be open from Thursday to Sunday, starting at 2 PM.  Keeping with the rustic décor has not prevented the new bar from offering wireless internet access to its customers.  Keep an eye on our website for all special events and shows throughout the season.

More improvements for your ski destination

  1. Throughout the summer the town of Sutton worked on a new project totalizing an investment of 5.5 millions;
  2. Domaine Tomali-Maniatyn is now a well deserved Five Sun (highest classification for the B&B);
  3. Auberge & Spa West Brome now offers access to a majestic indoor pool completely glassed in;
  4. Hotel & Condos Le Montagnard is building a new conference room and executive suits;
  5. Auberge des Appalaches is totally renovated ;
