Special Article - Spring skiing, a sport of situation
posted on 03-04-2008

Skiing is a sport of adaptation. All the turns are different. The soft morning snow will be transformed during day under the influence of the temperature, the number of skiers and the orientation of the sun.
We have a lot to learn from the environment, by paying attention to it, we shall draw the maximum of pleasure out of our descents.
We practice a sport of diversity, difference and to maximize our pleasure at the mountain, we must adjust ourselves to different situations.

Some advice:
  • Ski at low speed. By concentrating on the surface, you will have a better feeling of the snow.
  • Pay attention to where you are skiing. Look for mass of snow to perform your turns, convex areas to begin them, steeper slopes to supplement them and flat spaces for successions of turns or S-type turns.
  • Vary your turns. Making wide and short quick turns represent a great way of discovering the mountain, avoiding traps and of giving a sense in your descents.
  • Finally, choose a ski resort that offers a wide variety of terrains, one which respects the natural outlines of the mountain, allowing you to ski in different conditions every day. Too many resorts lost the mountain spirit by enlarging the trails and equalizing with excessive grooming which is an obstacle to practicing a sport of situation.

Grab your cameras. Ready. Ski!
posted on 13-03-2008

SUTTON, My mountain resort! launches a great photo contest. Last year, SUTTON had put the skiers and surfers in the center of the creation process of their new corporate image by means of interviews and focus groups. Between now and April 30th, skiers and surfers are invited to bring their most inspired pictures of the present year. All subjects are accepted: landscape, persons, tricks, as long as the photograph was taken at SUTTON. The winner : the person whose picture will reflect SUTTON’s essence the best.

Your picture part of SUTTON’s images
There is no limit to the number of photographs sent in by a same person. At the end of the period of collection, photographs will be shown to a jury which will choose the best. The most representative of SUTTON will serve as an inspiration for the artists responsible for designing the promotion tools for next season. The big winner chosen among three finalists will receive an 8MP digital camera, perfect for winter sports amateurs. All three finalists will have the pleasure of seeing parts or perhaps figures in their photographs translated into SUTTON promotion images!

Your SUTTON Promotion Campaign
« SUTTON skiers have declared unanimously that SUTTON is « like nowhere else ». Also, numerous are those who said that the actual advertising defines well the authenticity of SUTTON, which is why they appreciate the station so much. Because a day of skiing or surfing is how you decide it to be, because the moments of happiness during a ski day at SUTTON are sometimes intangible… we wished to bring in SUTTON skiers in the next promotion campaign and we invite each and everyone to send in their photographs. » says Nadya Baron, Marketing Director for SUTTON, My Mountain Resort!

Your SUTTON Moments
Three pictures will serve as models for the artists who will “translate” them to show the uniqueness of SUTTON. Don’t wait any longer. Send in your file along with your name, e-mail and telephone at sutton@montsutton.com and have a chance to contribute personally to the next campaign of SUTTON, My Mountain Resort!
Catch a quiet moment or a friend at one of following activities in SUTTON:

* The Rodeofest Nokian Tyres, March15-16
* The Teasers’ Race, March 22
* The Relay for Life, March 29
* The Try a Snowscoot Day, March 30
* Snow on the Beach, April 5

Many sunshines, snowstorms and smiles could inspire you as well. So grab your camera, Get ready. And ski.

Great results from our SUTTON racers… 4 SUTTON racers are now heading to the Canadian Championship
posted on 10-03-2008

We enjoyed a very good performance of our racers at the K2 Critérium, held at Mont Grand Fonds in the beautiful Charlevoix region.

For the first day, we were treated to good performances in Super G from our boys; a 7th place for William Schuessler-Bédard, a 16th for Olivier Garceau, a 33rd for Vincent Bissonnette and a 59th for Olivier Lavigueur. Regarding the girls, Alexina Lamoureux began the Critérium with a 6th place followed by Hilary Bonneville for a 20th place, Stephanie Terriault for a 28th place, Michèle Laflamme for a 57th place and Amélie Tremblay for a 62nd place. Frédérique Morrissette unfortunately did not finish the race.

For the second day, the first day of the Giant Slalom series, the girls have continued to perform with a 2nd place for Alexina Lamoureux and two girls in the top 15. As for the boys, their performances were more modest with the best result being a 27th place for William Schuessler-Bédard.

The good results have continued to accumulate among the girls during the 2nd day of the Giant Slalom with Alexina Lamoureux for a 3rd place, Hilary Bonneville for an 8th place and Stephanie Terriault for a 12th place. The boys have performed better this second day of Giant Slalom with an 8th place for William Schuessler-Bédard, a 22nd for Olivier Garceau, a 25th for Vincent Bissonnette and a 55th for Olivier Lavigueur.

The first day of Slalom took place on the 4th day. Hilary Bonneville began the series with a 3rd place followed by Stephanie Terriault for 9th place and Amélie Tremblay for a 31st place. For the boys, note the superb performances of William Schuessler-Bédard for a 2nd place and Vincent Bissonnette for a 15th place.

And finally, the fifth day to crown it all: the gold medal in slalom of Alexina Lamoureux and the 4th place of Hilary. For the boys, William Schuessler-Bédard finished 8th, Olivier Garceau 27th and Olivier Lavigueur 48th.

The Super Kombi discipline, a virtual race, combined the 1st day’s Super G with the 4th day’s Slalom. Again, we were treated to a superb performance with a 4th place for William Schuessler-Bédard and a 2nd place for Alexina Lamoureux.

Finally, the general standings: a great performance from Sutton! For the boys, we find William Schuessler-Bédard in 6th place followed by Olivier Garceau in 28th, Vincent Bissonnette in 33rd and Olivier Lavigueur in 61st. For the girls, Alexina Lamoureux ranked 2nd, Hilary Bonneville 4th, Stephanie Terriault 12th, Amélie Tremblay 55th, Frédérique Morrissette 72nd and Michèle Laflamme 76th.

A Prettier City, a Smoother Ride
posted on 04-03-2008

Since last May, the City of Sutton is changing the look of its Main Street to emphasize the beauty of the houses and buildings. It is undertaking the last step of the project: the installation of new street lamps on Main Street. The local administration takes advantage of the works to hide public utility cables, as well. The motorists will be subjected, nevertheless, to no inconvenience.
In addition, the Ministry of Transport, on which depends Maple Road up to the ski station, is filling the spots where the asphalt was peeled off by frost with a resistant mix of cold asphalt. As of May and throughout summer, the City of Sutton and the Ministry of Transport are going to improved the Maple Road, between Pleasant Street and Domaine Mont-Louis, thus continuing the work done between Main Street and Pleasant Street during the summer of 2007. During the 2008-2009 winter, skiers and snowboarders will enjoy a very smooth ride up to the SUTTON ski resort.
